Richard Bartrop - Work at Height UK Profile

Richard Bartrop

Work at Height UK accurately describes the core business of the company directed and managed by Richard Bartrop.

Richard supervised and managed work at height for fifteen years before creating his own consultancy and training business to help companies fulfil their duties under height safety legislation. He has worked in the roles of site supervisor, contracts manager, business development manager, health and safety manager and training manager, specialising in access installations and height-safety training products, including Rope Access, Personal Fall Protection Techniques and Rescue/Evacuation methods.

He has gained a Masters in Business Administration, a PGCE teaching certificate and a NEBOSH Diploma Part One which provide a sound basis for his work analysing safety critical situations at height and developing appropriate control measures and training solutions.

He maintains currency with legislative developments by complementary learning; for example, the OHSAS 18001 Lead Auditor qualification by the British Standards Institute and Radio Frequency Awareness qualification by the Health Protection Agency. He is currently developing standards at industry level, representing IRATA on ACWAHT (Advisory Comitee for Work at Height Training), which has been a major contributor to BS8454: Delivery of Training and Education for Work at Height and Rescue and is creating a framework to develop and evaluate Trainer and Assessor performance, a project which should provide a bench mark for such activities in the height safety training industry.

Richard is a TechSP member of IOSH and also an Individual Member of IRATA (Industrial Rope Access Trade Association), enjoying the positions of IRATA Level Three, Trainer and Auditor.
